Using the fire test, microscopic view and, optionally, chemical testing, I learned how to test a fabric to discover the raw materials used in it. Below are a few pages of the textiles portfolios I had to hand in.

Every fabric has its own material and fabric card. The material card describes the construction of the fabrics and materials of the different yarns. It also shows how many different yarns were used and the weight in g/m2.
The fabric card shows the details of the fabric. It shows the colour and the process of colouring of the fabric. The visible finish of the fabric and the optional relevant chemical finishes are mentioned as well. Finally the cradle-to-cradle suitability and the end use are described in this form.

There were also theoretical classes about product quality, production processes, sustainability, weaving and knitting constructions, yarn constructions and fancy yarns. Weaving and knitting constructions were very important and therefore, there was a assignment attached to them. The assignment was to illustrate the weaving constructions and the colour woven patterns. A few of those can be found on this page as well.
