After the first two years at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute I realised I had gathered an interest for textiles and product development, rather than marketing and branding. The last two years of my bachelors I was given the opportunity to explore this interest further and among other things, write my thesis on green textile chemistry. In the research phase I looked for the definition of green chemistry and how that relates to the textile industry. During the experimental phase I tested different PFOAS/PFOA free water-repellent finishes to see if they would be as effective as their unfriendly counterparts.
This research on the introduction of green chemicals concerns a descriptive and evaluative research. This involves both qualitative and quantitative research. The qualitative research consists of interviews and group discussions with suppliers and people from the textile industry. The quantitative research consists of laboratory tests and online research.
